Biography

Brian L. Frye received a B.A. in Film Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.F.A. in Filmmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and a J.D. from the New York University School of Law. After law school, he clerked for Justice Richard B. Sanders of the Washington Supreme Court and Judge Andrew J. Kleinfeld of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. After clerking, he joined the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. Professor Frye’s scholarship focuses on civil procedure, the judicial process, art law, and nonprofit organizations and has appeared in the NYU Journal of Law & Liberty.

Professor Frye has also published film and art criticism in many books, magazines and journals, including The New Republic, Film Comment, and Cineaste. His films have shown at many museums and festivals, including the 2002 Whitney Biennial, the New York Film Festival, and the San Francisco International Film Festival. He is currently working on a feature-length documentary with his wife, Penny Lane.
